Different methods work best for different subjects, but don’t let that stop you experimenting; the best shots usually comre from subjects caught from an unexpected viewpoint. Try out some of these ideas to put some punch into your creative compositions.
Photography Tip: Composition Techniques: Subject Placement
Decide what point of interest is before hitting the shutter, and determine how to emphasize it. A popular approach is the rule of thirds. Mentally divide the frame vertically and horizontally into thirds, and then place key subjects where the lines intersect. A central subject can give the impression that important elements spread out from the middle, but can also make the subject feel contrived
Photography Tip: Composition Techniques: Balance
This is achieved with formal symmetry, or fir more creative shots, asymmetry that contrasts shapes and texture in opposing parts of the frame. To achieve balance, analyze a scene in terms of the subject’s visual impact. An image with a large impact contrasted against a small impact is most interesting.
